What We Can Learn From Squid

In a story published by the NY Times, we learn that squid are gender-neutral when it comes to sexual relations. Male squid, living half-a-mile down in the deepest darkness of the ocean, are evidently not concerned with whether they are copulating with male or female. The argument, as it goes, suggests that natural selection has not wiped out the species, and therefore same-sex sexual behavior is completely...natural.
I think you can probably see where this is headed. If it is true that we are, deep-sea squid and human being alike, no more than products of the evolutionary process (at various points, of course), then...what? Mate like animals? Feel good about androgynous sexuality? Do what comes natural?
It appears that humans are very eager to reduce life (and sexuality) to nature. Whatever takes place in life and in sex must be natural, because it is a part of nature. Whatever is, is.
God help us.
