I am excited to begin our after-school ministry in the neighborhood this afternoon! (After) School House Rock! is modeled on two very different ministries: the Jack Black-led School of Rock (Paramount, 2003), in which our rock anti-hero teaches a bunch of prep-school kids how to truly rock; and (perhaps much more appropriately) the ministries of Karol Józef Wojtyła (Pope John Paul II), Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and many other Christian leaders like them who engaged young people in the life of faith by cultivating relationships, sharing life in community, and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Once a week we will gather at the church for an after-school snack, talk about the day ("What was one really good thing that happened today?" "What was one disappointing or frustrating thing about your day?"), a time to play (obstacle courses, team-building exercises, walks around the neighborhood, etc.), and a short catechetical lesson. I will be using the Belgic Confession as a guide. Thus, today we will consider Article 1, "The Only God"..."a single and simple spiritual being, whom we call God--eternal incomprehensible, invisible, unchangeable, infinite, almighty; completely wise, just, and good, and the overflowing source of all good."
Kids K-5th grade are welcome! 3:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church, 910 Main Street, West Chicago.
I'll be praying for those kiddos. Have fun!
