Baby G was adopted yesterday. Just like that. The speed with which this event occurred would perhaps allow one to believe we have a well-oiled system in place here in the United States. (In comparison to Russia, of course, we do have a remarkably efficient and compassionate system.) It's never quite as easy or simple as it looks, of course.
Up until about five days ago, we were quite certain that God was calling us to adopt little Baby G--the Else family would be a family of seven. In his great providence, however, another way formed, and now Baby G has new, first-time parents. We are rejoicing, but a little sad.
It is amazing how quickly one can attach to a child. In seven weeks, Baby G had become a part of our family. He had become an Else. God has something different for him, however. Our only prayer throughout all this has been that a) Baby G would have a Mom and a Dad who love him, and b) that he would grow up in a Christian home where he would be raised up in the ways of the Lord. Those prayers have been met. We thank God for it.
Foster care and Safe Families for Children are so very important for Christian families and for kids who need families. It is our joy to be used by God in this way. What a joy to be a part of the changing trajectory of a child's life by the gracious beneficence of God.
We will continue to pray for Baby G and his new parents. Please pray for all the orphans of the world, and consider how God might be calling you to be a safe family.
