Julie and I introduced Ian and Sophie to the joy of live music last night with one of the great live bands of our era--Wilco. They headlined a show in Geneva (right next door) that also featured one of my favorites--Andrew Bird.
Bird was great, though we were late for "A Nervous Tick Motion of the Head to the Left." The night was warm, the venue perfect, and the crowd well-behaved.
Tweedy & Co. led off with "Dawned on Me," which was an interesting choice (perhaps based on heavy WXRT airplay). Followed by:
War on War--still favorite song from YHF
I Might
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart--never, ever gets old...
Handshake Drugs
Spiders (Kidsmoke)--a very good, chillaxed version
Impossible Germany--one of the reasons Sky Blue Sky is so very good
Born Alone--best song on Whole Love and Ian's favorite
Side with Seeds--again, love Sky Blue Sky and this particular song...
Say You Miss Me--kicking it old-school
Candyfloss--Summer Teeth is one of the premier summer albums...great song
Jesus Don't Cry--great song
Hate it Here
Whole Love
I'm Always in Love
Heavy Metal Drummer
I'm the Man Who Loves You--outstanding
Via Chicago--perfect
Art of Almost
Standing O--only bad one of the bunch
Shot in the Arm--yes
California Stars--a surprising placement for old Woody Guthrie song
Late Greats
Hoodoo Voodoo--great way to end (however, again, surprising they would end with Guthrie)
Missed a couple, I think, but that was the show. Tired kids. Great night.
