Mark 14:12-25

All the symbolism of the Passover meal here finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. All of God's mighty works in delivering His people were remembered and here re-introduced by Christ as a fulfillment of God's cosmic purposes for all humans.

Bread and wine, here again. The unleavened bread symbolized the removal of sin in the lives of Israelite believers. Jesus said, "Take; this is my body."

The wine symbolized the blood of the paschal lamb smeared over the doorposts of the house, protecting the Israelites in Egypt from God's wrath. Jesus said, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many."

Jesus Christ removes the stain of sin. Jesus Christ appeases the wrath of God. We confess and believe that this new covenant is "an eternal covenant of grace and reconciliation, that we should forever be accepted by God and never forsaken by Him" (Worship the Lord, "The Meaning of the Sacrament"). In Jesus Christ, we are forever reconciled to God!

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
