What I'm Reading...

Give Praise to God: A Vision for Reforming Worship (eds. Ryken, Thomas, and Duncan [New Jersey: R&R Publishing, 2003])--This festschrift honors the legacy of James Montgomery Boice, and is serving as a fitting resource for a new Sunday school class at FCC in February. Dr. A.J. Poelarends (Wheaton College), David Wright (Wheaton Christian Grammar School) and I will be teaching Worshiping the God of All Creation beginning February 12. Our focus is worship and creational theology.

The Cost of Discipleship (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)--I first read this in seminary, but my interest has been rekindled for two reasons: 1) I read Eric Metaxas' wonderful biography on Bonhoeffer last fall, and believe that TCOD will have a deeper resonance considering what I now know of the context in which it was written; 2) I will be preaching through the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) beginning February 12 through Lent. TCOD provides a wonderful exposition of the text.

Calvin's Commentaries, Vol. XXI (John Calvin)--This is our last week in Paul's Letter to the Colossians, and I always appreciate John Calvin as a conversation partner.

The Complete Father Brown Mysteries, Vol. 2 (G.K. Chesterton)--My appreciation of the early 20th-century essayist and public intellectual continues to rise based on this wonderful short stories starring the unassuming and wise Father Brown.
