Why the Name?

Love in the Ruins is the name of my favorite book from my favorite author, Walker Percy.
Percy, more than any other author, was willing to ask the question, "What is wrong with us?" Like Kierkegaard, he recognized the sickness of the human condition (Kierkegaard--the "sickness unto death"; Percy--the "thanatos syndrome"). We are fallen. We are, as sinful people created in the image of God, "glorious ruins" (to quote Francis Schaeffer).
The good news of the gospel is that God has come to our rescue, saving us from sin and death through his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and is now at work in restoring these glorious ruins (a process we call sanctification). Yeah, this is very good news.
There is so much more to say on all of this. Wait for it...
